CV for Oman: Format, Residency and Omanisation Rules
How to write a CV for Oman: one to two pages, photo and nationality choices, residence card status, Omanisation, licences and a full example.
A CV for Oman should usually be one to two pages in clear English, reverse-chronological and focused on results. State your nationality, current location, residence status and notice period, because these often decide whether a recruiter can consider you. We found no official CV template, so a photo and other personal details are local habits, not rules: follow the job advert. Arabic is an advantage in government and customer-facing roles. This guide explains what to include, how Omanisation affects you, and gives examples and a sample.
The structure to use
- Contact details: name, Omani city, +968 mobile, email, LinkedIn.
- Status line: nationality, residence card or visa, notice period.
- Summary: your role, a sector such as logistics or energy, and one result.
- Experience: title, employer, dates, then results in OMR, volume or safety record.
- Skills and licences: tools and safety courses, plus any licence you hold.
- Education and languages: degree, year and honest levels of English and Arabic.
Energy and logistics employers often receive files through portals, so use a single column that applicant tracking systems can read. Our length guide helps you trim.
State your status accurately
One accurate line near the top saves recruiters time. Use only the status that is true and valid in Oman. A residence permit from another Gulf country does not give you the right to work here, so do not describe it as transferable; give your location and notice period instead.
Indian national | Based in Muscat | Valid Omani residence card | 30 days' notice
Pakistani national | Based in Karachi | Requires employer sponsorship | Available in 6 weeks
How work visas work
Work visas in Oman normally involve the employer, the Ministry of Labour and the Royal Oman Police. A tourist visa or e-visa is not a work permit. An Omani residence card applies in Oman only. Check the official site before relying on any advice, and be careful with any offer that demands upfront payment.
Photo and personal details
Practice varies: many Gulf employers are used to photos, while some now prefer none. If you add one, use a professional photo. Nationality is usually useful because it affects visas and quotas. Date of birth and marital status are optional. Leave out your passport and residence card numbers, religion and full address until you receive an offer; see our personal details guide.
Omanisation
Oman encourages hiring nationals and has restricted certain professions to Omanis. These lists change, so check the Ministry of Labour before you spend time on an application. If you are a national, make it visible at the top. If you are not, focus on specialist skills, regulated experience or sectors where the employer can clearly hire you.
Show results that fit the market
Employers in Oman may look for experience in energy, logistics, mining and tourism, while hospitality, healthcare and construction also recruit. Name your sector and scale, and convert unfamiliar currencies into OMR or USD. The figures below are examples. Use the achievement pattern.
Before: Responsible for warehouse operations.
After: Ran a 12,000 m² warehouse near Sohar Port with 35 staff, cutting order errors from 2.4% to 0.8% in one year.
Before: Worked on oil and gas projects.
After: Coordinated HSE inspections across 3 sites, closing 95% of actions on time, with no lost-time injury in 18 months.
Licences and attestation
Health professionals, engineers and some other regulated workers may need licensing or credential checks. State only what you have, such as “OMSB licence in process”, and see our certifications guide. Attested certificates may be requested later for a permit, so keep yours ready.
Languages
Clear English carries much private-sector work in Oman. Arabic helps in ministries, customer service and roles close to Omanisation lists. Show real levels, as our languages guide explains, and note any course in progress.

- Forgetting your residence status or start date.
- Listing a passport or residence card number.
- Trusting an offer that asks you for a fee.
- Giving no port, plant or site scale for logistics or energy work.
