CV for Qatar and Kuwait: Format, Visa Status and What Gulf Recruiters Expect

October 28, 20262 min read

How to write a CV for jobs in Qatar and Kuwait: length, photo and personal details, how to state residence permit and visa status, Qatarisation and Kuwaitisation, professional accreditation and common mistakes.

Qatar and Kuwait hire large numbers of international professionals in construction, energy, healthcare, hospitality and finance. Their CV conventions are close to the rest of the Gulf, but visa and residence questions matter even more.

Format and length

  • One to two pages, achievement-focused, in English. Arabic is a plus for government and client-facing roles.
  • Reverse-chronological, with Gulf or regional experience made visible when relevant.
  • Formal, factual tone.

Photo and personal details

A professional photo is expected by many employers. Nationality is commonly included because it affects visas and quotas. Date of birth and marital status are common but optional.

Visa and residence status: the first filter

Recruiters often sort candidates by location and visa first. State it in one line in your summary or header:

  • Qatar: «Based in Doha, valid Qatar residence permit (RP), available with 30 days' notice».
  • Kuwait: «Based in Kuwait, transferable residency, available immediately».
  • Outside the country: «Based in Amman, available to relocate, notice period 1 month».

Only a residence status valid in that country is useful. A UAE or Saudi residence permit does not transfer to Qatar or Kuwait, so do not describe it as transferable; give your current location and notice period instead.

Nationalisation programmes

Qatarisation and Kuwaitisation give priority to nationals in many sectors. If you are a Qatari or Kuwaiti national, make it clearly visible on your CV.

Professional accreditation

  • Engineers in Kuwait often need accreditation from the Kuwait Society of Engineers; in Qatar, engineers register with the relevant ministry.
  • Healthcare professionals need a licence from the national health authority (for example the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar).
  • Mention degree attestation if it is already completed.

Common mistakes

  • No location or visa line, so the recruiter has to guess.
  • A US-style one-page résumé with no photo for roles where a photo is expected.
  • Calling a residence permit from another country transferable.
  • Listing duties without numbers in a results-driven market.
In the Gulf, where you are and whether you can start is often read before your experience.

Qatar and Kuwait conventions, built in

The CV Analyz builder supports 26 countries, including Qatar and Kuwait, and applies their conventions automatically: length, photo, personal details and a visa line. It mentions residence status only if you provide it and never calls another country's permit transferable.
